5 Comments:
1. An Abduction Story by Chicken and Biscuits
A story of an alien abduction, involving erotic anal probing. Spoiler: it was his uncle.
2. Monster Beats by Kjai
From the light copy for this piece:
"A monster beat boxes.
As he walks slowly.
He exits and dies."
3. Unfinished Novel by Crowe, age 8
There is a wolf pack that hunts rabbits and tries to avoid People. They have wolf language and wolf magic and names like Regludeglo and Tikki Tikki Tembo.
4. Macky Was Aces by Taylor Cook
A song about how this guy Macky was aces! Another catchy song from Taylor. I really dig this guy.
5. The Greatest by evn skenk
Starting off with an epigraph from Busta Rhymes, Evan tells the story of preparing to climb a mountain by psyching the mountain out with a press conference, Muhammad Ali-style.
6. A Valentine's Day Story Made on Valentine's Day from a Person Who Had Nothing Else to Do on Valentine's Day by Craig Martin
A man is stood up by a date and his friend hooks up with a wild lady at a party. THE SAME LADY.
7. Were by Spencer Abbe
Two guys are horrible, woeful, baleful monsters...were-penguins.
8. A Fairy Tale Written in 5 Minutes, Borrowing Liberally from a Japanese Skit Written by Jane
A ninja and pirate are after the same princess, but their true loves are each other.
9. Marek is a JEW by Marek
Marek and Bryan are perfect for each other: after all, Bryan is her JEW (Japanese Existing in Wyoming) and she is his JAP (Jewish American Princess). Also, Marek sings!
10. A Mostly Fictitious Account of Thanksgiving Dinner at 4484 N. Hoyne Ave, Chicago, IL
A trio at home is set upon by ninjas. The ninjas are offered gravy, there was a mix-up, and they part on amicable terms.
11. This American Life: Dummies? by Luke Christensen
A magic pair of glasses make clown!Luke turn into Ira Glasses. Is Luke a dummy??
While Luke is highly competent at fooling, he certainly is no fool himself.
I just want to say that #2, #5, #9, and #11 (if possible) are all bestofs. At the very least - #9. AMAZING.
Maybe it's just me, but I thought that #3 was incredibly amusing. Ingenious? Perhaps not. But there's always something remarkably entertaining about delving into the creative genius of a dark, brooding 8-year-old.
I liked a lot about this night, but I wanted to say that I also really dug Marek's piece and I'll be thinking about it for Best Of when it comes around.
