My review of the show.

>1. That Doesn't Even Exist by Evan Schenck

I'm so looking forward to seeing this again. It is very funny. I wonder if Evan will bother with trying to change around that controversial ending?

>2. Scandal on a Note by Katy Baggs

The best thing about this is that Katy acts so ZANY. I think that she had better written pieces this semester, but none that she acted as zany in, so this had the more "entertainment value?" I guess.

>3. Professor Teeth: A Song by The C. Everett Poops (Brian Lenth)

I'm very happy that this song will be shared, once again, with the world. Lumo, are you going to campaign to have this song credited differently? Maybe to Two Guys & Janani?

>4. Snap Rack by Michael Tabor & Jake Gontero & Jamal River

I wasn't really surprised that this got in the show. It seemed to be a favorite, but I was secretly in my head hoping that Smarty & Fatty would be in instead. This will be great fun, though!

>5. The Desert Shone Blue by Arlen Lawson

So, good! I can't wait!

>5.5 Aids Baby 2 by Jan Sport

Zing!

>6. The Orange Sketch by Greg Machlin

I'm a little worried that my half of the now legendary performance given in this skit, will not be as good...the first time when I did it, I got on stage without knowing what I'd do...not knowing, for example, how I'd dance, or how I'd react to eating the orange. Now that I've done it, and I know how GOOD it was, I guess I know how I have to act...but can I pull it off again? I don't know! Probably. We'll find out.

>7. A Dinosaur Is My Friend by King Sophie

Yes! This is correct! It is going to be fun!

>8. Racism Soup by Eric Landuyt

This was actually funny and I'm not going to hate having to watch it again.

>9. A Guy with a Deep, Grumbly Voice Reads The Far Side Aloud by Tah-Com (Jesse Blaine)

I'm surprised Jesse even got in, since he is on the bad side of the No Shame Executive Adam Hahn Board of Directors. I guess this shows how fair and even handed that they are.

Also, this piece will be good.

>10. Crazy Talk by Matt Benyo

Oh, yeah! More music! I like Benyo's music!

>10.5 Arlen Quits Smoking by Mirri

This will be GREAT!

>11. S Is for Seppuku by Eli Wilkinson

I heard that Eli is going to let people play around with that sword after the show.

>12. Homosexual Andy & Homosexual Miguel by Jamal River and Michael Tabor

I'm a little surprised that this got in the show, but it is a good song and I will enjoy playing it.

>13. The Captain by Timm Sitzmann

Go, Tim, Go!

>13.5 The Dopest Ride in The World by Girl, Interrupted (Janani)

I heard that Patrick really, really wanted this in the show, so that he got to kiss Janani some more.

>14. Ice storm by Adam Hahn

I was not at this show, so I didn't see it, so I can't comment, but I guess it'll be nice to see a piece that I haven't seen before and is supposed to be good.

>15. Quote Boy vs. The Invisible Man by Patrick Ashcraft

I'm interested to see how this turns out.

"I'm going to bring it up with my No-Shame brain trust. I've already spoken to half of them, and they said it should stay the way it is."

Evan, I don't care what anybody says. Don't change the ending! In fact, I don't even remember what the ending was, but I do remember it was crucial to the totally awesome punchline.

Blogger jml said...

Evan, I have to go with Benyo on this one. I don't remember much from No Shame (or generally ROFLOLLYU!@@):::)) but I do remember this piece AND it's ending!! JAKE. !! . The informed, invested members of the Hahn's No Shame Improv Scociety Inc. want to see the other ending, Even, this is what is so clearly!

4/29/2007 3:52 PM
Blogger Michael Tabor said...

Jake, you remember the punchline and I seem to recall that you did NOT like it...it was when the girl in the shop told Evan that they had a whole crate of those wax cylinders and why didn't Even just sell him one? And Even said, "Because, fuck that guy! That's why!"

4/29/2007 4:44 PM
Blogger Jake Gontero said...

Yeah! I remember the punchline. "Because fuck him. That's why." Something like that. But I don't think that was where the controversy was. I thought it was about something directly before that line? I seem to remember it being necessary for the because fuck him line.

I'm going to take this opportunity to be a bastard, and quote myself from my review of that show.

"Okay, maybe I didn't like that there were millions of copies back there the whole time, but "Because FUCK HIM, THAT'S WHY" was well worth having there already be cylinders of that song."

4/29/2007 10:52 PM

I totally just changed the thing that made people mad and still retained the punchline. So there.

I have faith, Michael. You don't have to replicate your performance from Feb.--you just have to be in the moment.

It looks like a good lineup. Only thing it's missing is a sketch by Shelton, but at least we get to see him onstage in "Racism Soup" and "S is for Seppuku." Haven't yet seen: Arlen Quits Smoking, The Captain. Looking forward to: Quote Boy vs. The Invisible Man.

At the risk, of sounding like a chump: after I typed that message about what the ending is, I thought to myself "Actually...that ending sounds pretty awesome...what the fuck am I talking about?"

But I decided to let it ride.

Hey, I put the video of last No Shame up on the internets to see how much work something like that would be. ...Some! It turns out. It's on the google video site...somewhere. I also made a page for it at kingtoad.org, (just click on the "No Shame" page). Some people's pieces are not a 'tall included, on account of the show was so much long that I had to stop recording to get it all on one tape and save room for Timm's finale. Those people who are left out and non-included are free to be hurt and mad, but please do hide your feelings and not talk to me about it.

To whoever's making the BONS program: I'd like "Professor Teeth" to be credited to the new band name, "Two Guys and Janani" instead of the old band name, "The C. Everett Poops". But if you already made it, that's okay.

I would, but I need to buy apartment furniture this summer and I can't afford to get a new camera as well. Eventually, though. But hey: I get to go couch shopping! I am looking forward to this. When I find a good deal on the perfect couch, I will snap it up, and I will feel triumphant, like I finally caught my whale. But I won't harpoon it because that would ruin the upholstery.

I liked this show.

The parts I remember best are Scandal on a Note, Snap Rack, Seppuku, The Desert Shone Blue, the saucer eyes of Chris LaVoie, and chipping my front tooth on Patrick's teeth. Patrick, I hope you spat that out along with the change.

Have yourselves a summer, all.

All the pieces were strong, but the highlights:

9) A Guy with a Deep, Grumbly Voice Reads the Far Side Aloud: I loved the changes.
4) Snap Rack--this was significantly funnier the 2nd time around.
3) Professor Teeth--great and demented; first time I'd heard this.
5) Desert Shone Blue--yeah.
11) S is for Seppuku--SEPPUKU!
14) Ice storm--I had forgotten about the candles.

Yeah, those are hers. (We had a heck of a time getting this here blog to accept the hrl link properly, thus the deleted posts. Kept entering the same code & it kept working fine in the preview but not showing up in the real post.!! Shocking and fascinating, hey?)

>jml, did you tape this show too?

No, I did not. But I would be happy to schedule appointments for people to come perform their "Best of Pieces" pieces in my living room or driveway or such like, and I will tape them there and make "dupes".

5/07/2007 4:07 PM

Oh....I guess of course they are Alyssa Bowman's pictures, that was Alyssa Bowman posting them. I don't know why I thought that was Alyssa Russell talking there.

Are people still reading this post? If they are, they will see these caricaturish drawings I made based on the BONS performances.

1. Evan's beard does exist
2. Scandal on a Note by Katy's huge head
3. Professor Teeth, by Two Guys and my hideously weird face
4. Snap Rack, featuring Mr. Jesteadt
5. The Arlen Shone Blue
6. The Greg Machlin, Michael, and Jamal doing hand gestures that Jamal probably wouldn't actually do Sketch.

I'm probably going to do the rest of the pieces too! Also, if you don't want to be drawn, or if you don't like my drawing of you and would like it taken down, totally let me know!

I'll do the rest of those drawings this weekend, people.

7. King Sophie
8. Waiter, a fly just "Landuyt" in my soup!
9. A Guy with a Deep, Grumbly Voice Makes a Crazy Face.
10. Bennnnnyo
11. Seppuku (I totally drew this one).
13. Yo soy el capitán
14. A little Hahn in the night
15. Quote Boy

Not all of the pieces are there, but everybody who had a major role at one point got one caricature (except Jake. Sorry about that).

And obviously some are better than others, and if I didn't draw a very good one of you, it means that you're hard to draw and not that I don't like you. Example: Evan.

Matt, you say such nice things.

Yes, I used Alyssa's and Kristin's photos for references on almost all of the drawings, and I lifted exact poses and expressions in a lot of cases. Which is a little cheap of me.

POST SHOW REVIEW:

>1. That Doesn't Even Exist by Evan Schenck

I agree with everybody else. I liked the last punchline more than this one. I think maybe Evan should have completely re-written the ending, without trying to preserve the punchline, or he should have kept it the same. BUT! This piece was really really funny! The audience didn't seem to be as in to it as much as I think that it deserved. It had good line after good line in it and the premise and the acting was good. Evan gave a great performance, I think...especially after he got overly annoyed.

>2. Scandal on a Note by Katy Baggs

I felt that this was too long. Katy's silly acting was funny and there were some good lines in it, but once she got the point across it just kept getting hammered and hammered and hammered and I suppose that might be how a teacher might really do it, but, I don't know, it wasn't that great for ME.

>3. Professor Teeth: A Song by The C. Everett Poops (Brian Lenth)

This is a great, great song. I'm a little sad that the violin guy didn't play a shaker or something like they did on Tabey Town, but I think this went very well. Brian, who has some issues with his singing volume, sang out very well. I think we were able to hear him song better than usual. Man...what a good song.

>4. Snap Rack by Michael Tabor & Jake Gontero & Jamal River

AWESOME!!! When Eric didn't read his stage direction and went over to the door to answer it and THEN read the script and realized he wasn't supposed to and walked away from the door...I LOST it...that was great, because he made the same mistake as he did the first time...he did such a good job with this...I'm a genuine fan of Eric's acting and this piece was originally written out of Jamal, Jake, and I's fondness of his stage presence. He's great.

>5. The Desert Shone Blue by Arlen Lawson

I liked it just as much as I did the first time, which is a lot. I don't have a big long paragraph to type out about this one, because I don't have anything bad to say about it and I don't have anything put praise to give it. It's a great use of the lights.

>5.5 Aids Baby 2 by Jan Sport

Very funny!

>6. The Orange Sketch by Greg Machlin

Fun to be in.

>7. A Dinosaur Is My Friend by King Sophie

I'm such a fan of Sophie's music. She great. This song is great!

>8. Racism Soup by Eric Landuyt

Funny.

>9. A Guy with a Deep, Grumbly Voice Reads The Far Side Aloud by Tah-Com (Jesse Blaine)

AMAZING! I wasn't going to think that Jesse respected himself as an artist, unless he did something like this...I was thinking perform that original piece that caused the hoopla, but this was so, so much more better. Chris gave a great performance as the audience member. Jesse should have waved his knife around more so everybody knew he had it. Hey, let's all have a big great big debate about this piece and if it was appropriate!

>10. Crazy Talk by Matt Benyo

I liked this so much better this time than the first. I wish I could hear Benyo's singing better, but it was a good song.

>10.5 Arlen Quits Smoking by Mirri

Funny.

>11. S Is for Seppuku by Eli Wilkinson

hilarious.

>12. Homosexual Andy & Homosexual Miguel by Jamal River and Michael Tabor

I was sad that I missed that note...I was hitting it all day! I promise! It was a fluke!

Otherwise, I like the song...it's SOOOO long.

>13. The Captain by Timm Sitzmann

I'm going to be honest. I didn't really like this at all. It was way way too long. After he said he was going to have sex and cookies that's about all he said for the next three minutes...he didn't say anything other than re-wording those ideas over and over again.

>13.5 The Dopest Ride in The World by Girl, Interrupted (Janani)

What was Patrick doing with his tongue?!?!?! GROOS!

Great piece...fun, fun fun!

>14. Ice storm by Adam Hahn

I liked it.

>15. Quote Boy vs. The Invisible Man by Patrick Ashcraft

I don't know about anybody else, but I wish that Patrick would not have put the Invisisble Man monologue in there and would have just done Quote Boy. Not that I don't like the Invisisble Man...I just like Quote Boy and didn't wans it all broek n up like that!
