I really think that the roller skate bear should help open No Shame some night. Board member: "WELCOME TO NO SHAME! *Bear rollerskates around the stage waving*"

4. Seduction through Distraction

Janani and Lydia and I all thought this "Louise" lady was really adorable and we wanted to know who she was.

Also, I saw Greg's weiner. Straight up, no two ways about it, saw it.

There were more women onstage this night as well, and I hope this continues - Theresa, Sonja, Lydia, Mirri, Leigh, Janani. Only I was missing! It was a good night.

by David Rusell
I enjoyed this one. David had the kind of stage presence needed to carry this one off. Come back again next year.

2. Greg Machlin's Magnetic Love Poetry
by Katy Baggs
This was really funny. Great writing.

3. Apothecary
by Mirri
Pretty good song. One thing: Mirri often has her head down when she sings and sometimes it keeps her from projecting her voice.

The Lack-of-Sex-capades of Greg Machlin, Episode 1-5
by Eric & Eli
We love you, Greg. But not in that way. We know you want some lovin', but that's not the kind we're willing to give. Keep trying. But not with dead girls; that's just gross.

4. Seduction Through Distraction
by Andrew J. Daniels
Great performances by both actors. I wish these two would come to No Shame more often. The tension and pacing built very nicely without rushing or getting forced. Excellent.

4.25 Sonja's piece
by Sonja
Singing acapella is tough and Sonja did it well. Very few No Shame pieces try to have a message, so I commend her daring.

5. Dancing Around the Issue
by James S. Roth
Enjoyably silly.

6. The Ad Hoc Committee to Save NoShame, Proposal #4,003
by Greg Machlin
I had fun with it. The only thing it needed was more Greg nudity.

6.? Why I'm Not Wolverine
by Me
The buildup could have been more succinct.

7. Happy Birthdays
by Evan Shenck
I loved this one. The image of Greg clinging to a table leg and vomiting and screaming at people was very very funny.

8. Bear Battle
by Ray
More bears! More bears! More bears!

9.5 How To Manage Stress
by A. Theresa
The funnest part was watching David trying and failing to pop his balloon.

10. Who You Talking To?
by Beatty
Good writing by Nick. Pretty good acting too.

10.5 The Lack-of-Sexcapades of Greg Machlin, Episode 5
by Eli Wilkinson & Eric Landuyt
Katy, you forgot that Kim was also one of the many girls onstage. She did a good job being dead.

11. Eric Jesteadt is Totally Unpopular...Or Is He???
by Anonymous
I love "Misery" and this was a good parody. Nice acting by Lydia.

12. Echoes of the Big Bang
by Leigh
This song was awesome. Very nice fingerpicking and lyrics.

13. Tribute
by Late Night Infomercial Man
Buy it now while supplies last.

14. Therapy Session #147
by John Bates
John proved he can do serious work too. The imagery in this piece was hauntingly disturbing.

15. Dave Matthews
by the Bougm Fellows
I enjoyed the humorous lyrics, and Jake's trombone playing was fun.

16. My Last NoShame Piece of All Time by Greg Machlin
by Jake Gontero
Greg's talent as an inventor has been overlooked for too long. It's about time he got the recognition he deserves.

17. The Egg
by Your Prom is So Small
This song was fun. I liked dancing at the end.

A very very good show. Next year needs to be this good every week.

Very adept comic acting, and a few pretty good lines. I would love to see more.

2. Greg Machlin's Magnetic Love Poetry
by Katy Baggs
I liked these a while ago when they were written, as I do now.

3. Apothecary
by Mirri
I had the advantage of being five feet away from her so I heard every nuance. Very good performance. Your songs are of a superior quality, Mirri!

4. Seduction Through Distraction
by Andrew J. Daniels
Oh man, when that girl came out wearing that outfit, and then she pantomimed using a typewriter, it was as if she had been created just for that occasion. Who was that... THING? Like, she wasn't even a person, she was an abstraction. I don't mean to impugn your humanity, as I'm sure you're a real person with a mother and a job.

The performance was good, and I think the writing didn't shine quite as much but was still not bad.

5. Dancing Around the Issue
by James S. Roth
Another one of those things that you didn't know was the best thing to ever happen in the history of the universe until it HAPPENS: the sudden apparition of Eric Jesteadt dancing with the two plastic Hawk Shop bags. Absolutely capital.

6. The Ad Hoc Committee to Save NoShame, Proposal #4,003
by Greg Machlin
I enjoyed being cast in this piece, and I feel that it made the whole Gregfest pretty complete. This should have been at the end of the show!

7. Happy Birthdays
by Evan Shenck
Definitely one of the high points of the evening. Excellent performance from Greg.

8. Bear Battle
by Ray
Man, when I saw the title in the program, and saw the big stuffed bear on those divinely funny car rollerskates, I was expecting pretty much the best piece ever. I was NOT expecting that I would get pulled out of my comfortable audience seat and expected to play some weird game whose rules my mind, addled by drink, could not fully fathom. Thumbs down!

10. Who You Talking To?
by Beatty
Am I a bad person that I can't remember this piece? Yes.

11. Eric Jesteadt is Totally Unpopular...Or Is He???
by Anonymous
Aw, we like you, Eric.

12. Echoes of the Big Bang
by Leigh
Splendid song.

13. Tribute
There have been at least a few pieces where Eric makes a lot of ironic self-referential jokes about how bad some of his previous pieces were. I feel that if it is assumed that those pieces were bad, why should we as an audience want to remember and think about them? It would be kind of cheeky for you to do a piece celebrating all of the GOOD pieces you've done, but I would almost prefer that to a scatological obsession with one's own leavings.

14. Therapy Session #147
by John Bates
This is where the evening gets a little hazy for me, but I'm sure it was good.

15. Dave Matthews
by the Bougm Fellows
I wrote this song back in December, and thought then that it was too weird to perform. But The Bougm Fellows (pron. BOO-gum) recently decided it was too weird NOT to do.

16. My Last NoShame Piece of All Time by Greg Machlin
by Jake Gontero
I think Jake is very good as a writer, and I know he takes it very seriously and gives it plenty of thought. Too bad his muse is leaving for LA!

17. The Egg
by Your Prom is So Small
I had "the egg was a-cracklin' and out came Greg Machlin" stuck in my head all day a few days ago. Great job guys! Also, your band's name makes the acronym YPISS.

by Eric & Eli

I write plays! *walks away*

4. Seduction Through Distraction
by Andrew J. Daniels
(Man and his secretary are in love.)

the costumes and acting were great. I loved the over drama. But it went a bit long for me. And it needed that missing third thing..

4.25 Sonja's piece
by Sonja

jaw dropping. I really liked it.

4.5 The Lack-of-Sexcapades of Greg Machlin, Episode 2
by Eli Wilkinson & Eric Landuyt

they are bluring together..

5. Dancing Around the Issue
by James S. Roth
(Rave!)

fun

5.5 The Lack-of-Sexcapades of Greg Machlin, Episode 3
by Eli & Eric

was she passed out in this one?

6. The Ad Hoc Committee to Save NoShame, Proposal #4,003
by Greg Machlin

Greg was naked.... the singing at the end was fun. I would have liked it if this piece was last though..

6.? Why I'm Not Wolverine
by Me
(Me reveals injuries he suffered performing last week's piece.)

ow

7. Happy Birthdays
by Evan Shenck
(Greg pretends it's his birthday at Applebee's.)

I love Evan rants. I love evan rants read by Greg!

8. Bear Battle
by Ray
(Capture-the-coffee-cup, as referred by a bear on roller skates.)

not what i expected. But the bear suit was awsome.

8.5 The Lack-of-Sexcapades of Greg Machlin, Episode 4
by Eli & Eric

This was where she was passed out!.. I think...

(9. Not performed? Chi Chi Chi, by 16,66?)

this was fantastic!!! oh, wait...

9.5 How To Manage Stress
by A. Theresa
(Theresa & friends pop balloons.)

Theresa has fun pieces. It's good to involve the audience.

10. Who You Talking To?
by Beatty
(Two separate phone conversations.)

I don't think I wrote this clearly enough. I think the joke got lost.
Oh well, it was a learning experience in what's funny and whats not.

10.5. The Lack-of-Sexcapades of Greg Machlin, Episode 5
by Eli & Eric

GAH! I liked all of these even if I can't get them all seperated..

11. Eric Jesteadt is Totally Unpopular...Or Is He???
by Anonymous
(Eric is James Caan. Lydia is Kathy Bates.)

Disturbing.... but in a good way.

12. Echoes of the Big Bang
by Leigh
(Song.)

This was really good. But I would have liked it more if it kept the slow gentle tone for the entire piece.

13. Tribute
by Late Night Infomercial Man
(You can now get all of Eric Landuyt's most famous pieces.)

You matched the infomercial tone prefectly. Very good.

14. Therapy Session #147
by John Bates

The mental image of being hung by the nipples and chanting has stuck with me..

15. Dave Matthews
by the Bougm Fellows

by Jake Gontero
(Greg as inventor.)

This was one of the best NoShames of the semester, and *not* just because I had all that cool stuff written for me...thanks, guys! But seriously--Sonja's piece was very, *very* good--drag her back her next year; Andrew Daniels' piece was quite funny, and only 30 secs too long--though I'm glad Beatty's taken on my "needs that third thing" mantle. But, oh my freaking God, that secretary. Who WAS she? She was absolutely fantastic. And "Echoes of the Big Bang" was a great song. And Eric's "Tribute" played perfectly off the fact that it was "Greg" night.
You know what it was? It was the bear on roller skates. Has to be.

1) Restaurant--delightful. I don't remember the last time I saw a NoShame debut this good.
2) Magnetic Love Poetry--very fun to read, with a nice disturbing/sexual edge.
3) Apothecary--I liked this, but not as much as some of Mirri's other songs.
3.5) Sexcapades--all funny, and co-stars were great.
4) Seduction--see above. Secretary!!
4.25) Gutsy and fantastic--Sonja made a major, *major* leap from last week to this one. The audience was snapping along.
4.5) Was this the vomit one?
5) Dancing Around the Issue--James' best piece. I missed part of this because I was getting almost naked.
5.5) No, wait, *this* was the vomit one.
6) John pointed out too late that nudity's got to be a *button.* That was why "Orange Sketch Pt. III" didn't work--I was naked too long. I would've liked to rehearse the "Life On Mars," but the upside-down-chart worked perfectly.
6.?) Not Wolverine--This was enjoyable. Could've been a bit tighter. Now if only we can get "Me" to come at 10:30...
7) Happy Birthdays--this was my personal favorite of all the stuff I got to read, and one of my favorite Evan pieces this semester. I'm saving this along with the Jake pieces for possible audition pieces.
8) Bear Battle--this was fun to be in, but probably funner for us than it was for the audience.
8.5) You know, necrophilia's really a victimless crime...
9.5) How To Manage Stress--This was a great meld of story/audience participation.
10) Nick actually did this one with *four* conversations earlier, and I liked that one better. Tricky to construct, which I can certainly appreciate, but the only twist was "they're two different conversations."
10.5) ...But the bear worked *really* well in this piece. Not planned!
11) One of Eric's best pieces, actually; very good performance by Lydia.
12) I agree; I loved the quieter parts, but I can appreciate that Leigh's fighting against the commercial-type "Grey's Anatomy" music.
13) Well played, sir. Well played.
14) It was hard for me to transition from John-as-comedian to John-as-serious performer, but he really threw himself into this.
15) Dave Matthews--very funny. The lyrics worked really well.
16) Fun. Jake set himself a very high standard with the two previous Greg pieces, but this one certainly had its great moments. I think the alarm clock moment was my favorite.
17) The Egg: This made me all warm and fuzzy. I didn't know when to come in, though!
