1) Mirri's socks were nice but man did you see the curve of her ankle huminah! huminah! huminah!
2)I felt like this needed to be quicker with faster cue pickups. snappier.
3) It's a real article!
4) I wanted to see more characterization of the birds, Eric did some bird things, but then went back to talking like Eric! Plumes are fun
5) I had a fun enough time
6) This reminded me of the time Evan almost got stabbed by a guy. Actually is was almost EXACTLY like the time Evan almost got stabbed by a guy.
7) I don't remember?
8) The personal contents of a purse are always intriguing. and popsicles! hah!
9) I liked it, wouldn't change a thing
10) This was so far out of context i had no idea what was happening. I noticed it had a lot of telling and little showing.
11) I don't remember much about these jokes. They had some strange juxtapositions, but that's all that stuck with me.
12) This was a fun song. A good melody on gibberish is all I need to be happy.
13) Dr. Adventure came back. I think this was good that he was working to get back to his roots a little by killing less and being more. I think the problem with this might've been putting it on fresh air. Katy did the NPR voice amazingly well but for me, even the most poignant stories and interviews on fresh air are lullabies.
Only 13 pieces, with some of them being .5's and the absence of John Bates and Janani. Most of the stuff was unprepared, not on type-written scripts. LAzy week.
A bit of a rag-tag show, but I did feel more energy at this show than I have at many shows in recent memory. It was mostly nervous energy because almost everyone had made a bunch up on the spot, but that extra adrenaline did make for an interesting evening.
1)Gambling Gophers in the Sheharizad. murf! Murf, Murf, murf! Snorkle! U-huh. (pelvic Thrust) - Mirri
I enjoyed this, but I started to seriously wonder if the light operator had blown the cue to fade out and Mirri kept dancing because she didn't want to ruin the piece. I guess this wasn't the case, but thinking it was made me feel really sorry for Mirri.
2) Wheel of Misfortune - Eric Landuyt
The pace could have been a little faster, but I was pretty pleased. I was surprised at some bits that I thought were just okay getting bigger laughs than the ones I thought were great, but that's the mystery of comedy.
3) Italy's Science - An American... Damn it.
I hate to say it, but I am drawing a blank on this one.
4) Bird - Lisa Leveraton
I'm going to be honest: I had almost no idea what to do because the stage directions in the script were vague and confusing. I think a run-through before the show would have helped immensely.
5)State Shit - Luke Christensen
Ah, the halcyon days of state speech contests. My improv group once broke a kid's arm during a performance, but that's a story all its own. This story had a little too much rambling, but I chalk that up to it being improvised.
6) Hugs are Amazing - Eric Jesteadt
I like hugs too.
7) True Tales of a Cynical Convience Store Clerk - Kelli Willutsen
Holy crap, Brian's accent was funny! I couldn't hear the punchline due to the gales of laughter at Brian's line, but that really didn't matter.
8) Jakes got him a purse and he has in the dinosaur cage on safari in the sky with skeleton nose!!!!? ---Yes! - Mirri
This was funny, but it went on a little too long. Although I suppose that's Jake and Brian's fault for keeping so much stuff in their purse. I know, I know, be prepared and waste not, want not and all that, but that purse probably gets uncomfortably heavy. Save yourself some back pain and chiropractic bills and lighten the load a little. It can make a big difference.
9) Flatulent Grape - Robbie Tussin
It was what it was.
10) Prototype 2034- Eli Wilkinson
Doing a serious piece on a night like this was a real challenge, I'm sure. I thought this one was pretty good.
11) 9 Jokes - Nick
These weren't really jokes so much as odd statements that ended up being not funny. Pieces made up solely of a person acting awkward and saying random things are very hit-or-miss.
12) Kevan Arnold: Here is your dad with no clothes - Jamal River
Fun music, but I actually would have liked some intelligible lyrics. Watching a person flailing and spouting gibberish makes me feel like I'm laughing at a special needs person, which I suppose is all right if that person wants you to laught at them, which I assume Jamal did, but I'm just saying that's how I reacted when I saw this piece.
13) Dr. Adventure and the Grammy's - Evan Schenck
I agree with Dr. Adventure that most rap artists lack discernible talent and have to rely on producers who have it. This piece also offered a trip down Memory Lane for long-time viewers and an intro to Dr. Adventure for new viewers. Good work.
