IC BONS Nominations

The rest of the year looks like this:
November 17: Lip Synch night
November 24: no show (Thanksgiving weekend)
December 1 : Dead Week (there is a show, but pieces are not eligible for Best Of until spring)
December 8: BEST OF NO SHAME FALL 2006

If you have nominations for Best Of
Voice them as responses to this post. Everything from this semester, dead week of last semester, and all new work from festival week is eligible.
We will announce the Best Of order on December 1.

Also
We have discussed asking the department for permission to have BONS at an earlier time (10 PM? 9 PM?). If this affects your availability or enthusiasm, speak up.

sorry, i just have to post once more on behalf of "Stiff Upper Lip," since Lydia is brand-new and our memories may tend to favor No Shame regulars. for those who saw it and haven't submitted noms yet, please take into consideration that amazing safari costume, the cigarette-holder, "chum-whistler," "hedge-weasel," "my darling badger-wings," and the punchline, which pretty much brought the house down...

You just want to see her costume again.

Also, these nominations basically mean nothing because all the actual decisions are made by the board and they can ignore our input at will.

I disagree. Nomination are pretty important. I used to be on the board, and the nominations are taken into consideration at the meeting. I'm sure the current board will do the same. Also, yes, some nominations are ignored and mocked....and I'm sure the current board will do the same.

Michael, I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you there even though I have no evidence. I say that the board is just a bunch of crypto-Fascists and I defy you to convince me otherwise. I will win this argument because you are trying to use logic and I have no pretensions about being correct.

Seriously, what I meant was, the number of people who nominate Lydia Crowe's piece doesn't actually matter; all that needs to happen is for the board to go "Hey, Janani nominated Lydia's piece, do we also like this piece?" A big crowd of people nominating the piece might help, but meh...

• Cunnilingus is just another word for despair *or* Colgate Manna Casio by Shelton
• "A Fugue for Lovers" by Alisa Rosenthal (doing the lip-synch from "The Secret Garden")--Skeleton Alisa was good, but this was sheer genius.
• "He's Just Misunderstood" by Katy Baggs (about Bowser)--again, Clarence Thomas good, but this one genius (IMHO).
• "Hold On, I Have to Take This"--Nick steadily improved all semester, and this was a strong & very enjoyable piece.
• Any piece by Janani; I haven't seen either "Tech Support" or "Attic" or "monogomy" and those may be her three strongest pieces. Barring that, the sleep-world piece.
• Lydia as an explorer, based solely on her costume (didn't get to see the piece)
• Bubble Gum Yuppies & Hard-core puppies by Danielle
• Book Rush by Adam Hahn
• And I'll nominate a third piece I didn't get to see, based on reputation: Evan's "This Cake Is Not For You."
• Tim Sitzmann: Either "This is Some advice about Baseball" or "What's My Deal?," with slight modification so the questions build.
• Leaving the Disease Behind by Jacob Zawa
• Come and Meet the Folks, by Eli
• Miguel by King Sophie (piece about a hot dog vendor)
• Paincake by Erin King
• A Man Farts and Dies of Embarassment by Michael Tabor
• Kisses for sale, by Patrick/Lord Benington
• Dangerous Minds 2 by Mortimer Snert
• 0.5: The Question, the first version with Shelton & Alyssa because Eli hadn't shown up yet.
• Either First time at the Post Office or "Eric's Plan to Impress a Girl is Easily Thwarted" by Eric.
• A Christina Gulick piece (possibly "Get a Room")

Oh! Oh my! Was "Have It Your Way" a new piece?! Since it was really good I just kind of assumed it was an old good piece being resurrected for the festival week. Okay, so definitely that one too because I loved it. I'm sorry I keep addenduming my nominations. But if I don't find "Have It Your Way" under my No Shame tree on Best Of No Shame morning, I will be a very sad little Who indeed.

Oh, ok. I'm sure there's more that I'd like to see again, but here's a list of some of my nominations:

I can't believe it's not a Butterfly by Janani

Miser by Sean Shatto

Sad Song by Sad Sophie

Hooch 'N' Pooch by Mortimer Snert

Sasquatch and Meanie Cut the Cheese by Adam Burton and Carolyn Jacobson

That King Toad song...I don't remember the name...where Jamal goes "...around my head and around my head..." or something like that. Jamal, do you know which song I'm talking about?

There's more, but non of them are coming to me...if I think of anymore, I'll post them.

"That King Toad song...I don't remember the name...where Jamal goes '...around my head and around my head...' or something like that. Jamal, do you know which song I'm talking about?"

I do, Michael, I do indeed. It's called "Please Get Out of the Way," and thank you for nominating it, ol' buddy. I like that song, too. Why, if I were to go so far as to make my own "Bumpy Ogress Know-shum" nominations, I would probably nominate myself in the form of a song that I played, just like the one you mentioned!
After that I would probably nominate other things, too. Like "The Miser" by Sean, and naturally the "Michael uses the Jake dummy" piece, and the one where Evan won't share his cake made of poop, and "I Mind!" by Alyssa Bowman. And oh duh: the sasquatch and meanie piece that I already raved about. And... what else... I'm really just flinging these off the top of my head. The kisses for sale by Grumpy Patrick piece. Uhm. There's probably others. But that's plenty, like 9 pieces almost. That's close to a show right there. Just flesh it out a little.

Several people have nominated Yes Shame pieces, but you should be aware that there is very little chance of anything that hasn't been performed at No Shame making it into BONS. From what little I've seen, there has been some great work done at Yes Shame this year, some of which might play very well at No Shame (particularly Lilly's "Sex Explosion" English assignment), but BONS (unlike BOBONS) isn't typically open to work only performed at other venues. I hope that Yes Shame writers feel free to bring their work to both stages and that there will be an edition of BOYS representing the current batch of performances.

If anyone hasn't made BONS nominations yet, it looks like the board is meeting to set the order on Wednesday. Voice your opinion no later than Tuesday, and we will consider it (even if we consider it stupid).
