Iowa City Order, 10/28/05

Iowa City Big Butt No Shame Theatre Order, 10/28/05

There were some announcements:

* Eric Landuyt has a TV show you should watch.
* Adam Hahn is in Macbeth, playing this weekend and next at the Johnson County Fairgrounds
* Aprille Clarke is in Sweet Charity, directed by No Shame alumnus Chris Okiishi, playing next weekend and the one after that, at Oakdale Auditorium.
* King Toad has a new album; see Jamal for buying one.

1. "I Want to Scare You," by Bobby Evers (Bobby wears a scary clown mask, carries Katy onto stage, puts clown makeup on her, they leave. Creepy music plays.)

2. "Adventures in Alliteration," by Eric Landuyt (Hero/damsel-in-distress themes, swordfighting, and the threat of forced sex, though alliteration and assonance.)

3. "What's in my Pocket?" by Brown Butt (Aaron Galbraith taunts you about the contents of his pockets)

4. "Scary Halloween Spooktacular," by King Sophie (Sad ghost is fed marshmallows, but they fall right out.)

4.5 "The Return of Shelty Shakes Shelton," by Eli Wilkinson & Jon Shelton (Eli tickles Jonathan, then invites Katy from the audience to do the same, and later put her head on Jonathan's stomach, which horrifies her)

5. "300 is a Big Number," by Lenslie Krappenface and Strackzy Honez (Lenslie and Strackzy recount the events of the previous evening's orgiastic debauchery in varying degrees of detail to varying audiences)

6. "What Do Love & Baseball Have in Common? Both True & Fiction," by Danielle Santangelo Kovalil, Age 8 (From the vault, Danielle tells a story about her near-romance with Bo Jackson)

7. "His Stenographer for Years," by John Leigh (Aprille and friend Belky Gelky quote knowledgeable sources on topics of morality and child therapy)

7.5 "There's a train of Poop! Tim's True Tales" by Timm Sitzman (Tim's girlfriend accidentally called a lady Buh-jy-nuh when it was really By-ee-nuh)

8. "Little Billy's Halloween Pie," by Uncle Shelton (Jonathan tells children a scary, cannibalistic story, then offers to touch them)

9. "Old Poop Eye," by King Toad (musical performance from King Toad's new album Ion)

10. "My Halloween at the Beach," by Aprille Clarke (Skeleton Head and Wolfman want to get married)

11. "Hey Everybody, It's Bobby Evers's Birthday," by Katy Baggs (and he gets a thorough tickling out of it)

12. "Poo Train, Poo Train! Come on Ride the Poo Train," by Timm Sitzman (the story of a washed-up jazz musician who's cross-eyed and can only play with his nubby hand)

13. "Vampire Detective Frankenstein Party!" by Adam Hahn (Sherlock Holmes and Count Dracula meet at a party)

14. "It's Time for Lunch," by Bernice Wells Carlson (It's time for lunch. Everyone should go out into the hallway and enjoy it)

15. "Damn it, I Am Sexy No Matter What You Say and I'm gonna Prove It! Through Song and Dance," by Eli Wilkinson (Eli is interrupted by Patrick Ashcraft, who goes on to do a monologue about heartbreak, which he knows sounds cliché)

1. "I Want to Scare You," by Bobby Evers - Wow. I really enjoyed the creepy music. it would not have been nearly as humorous without the pauses followed by repeat. However I was not scared.

2. "Adventures in Alliteration," by Eric Landuyt - I think this is a great devlopment for eric. The aliteration was fantastic and the storyline hilarious, while a little random and confusing... but thats to be expected when you're trying to make everything start with teh same sounds.

3. "What's in my Pocket?" by Brown Butt- this guys engery was fantastic and creeped me out. Which i'm positive it was supposed to. The delievery really made it. Without his incredible delivery this skit would have been rather unremarkable but he made it awesome.

4. "Scary Halloween Spooktacular," by King Sophie- I want to know why the ghost was sad. I also regret bieng positioned so i couldn't see the marshmellow-stuffing that well.
4.5 "The Return of Shelty Shakes Shelton," by Eli Wilkinson & Jon Shelton - everyone likes to tickle people that make sounds
5. "300 is a Big Number," by Lenslie Krappenface and Strackzy Honez - um... sexual exploits of a near impossible nature are always amusing I guess, but its just not really my kind of humor.
6. "What Do Love & Baseball Have in Common? Both True & Fiction," by Danielle Santangelo Kovalil, Age 8 - ador. a. ble.
7. "His Stenographer for Years," by John Leigh- previous skits involving the saga of gomez have bored me a little and made me impatient, this one however was much better.
7.5 "There's a train of Poop! Tim's True Tales" by Timm Sitzman - I didn't get it though I still laughed. Is that wrong?
8. "Little Billy's Halloween Pie," by Uncle Shelton- DELIGHTFUL.

9. "Old Poop Eye," by King Toad - I missed the days when Jamal played guitar and sang. Made me feel happy inside.

10. "My Halloween at the Beach," by Aprille Clarke - aprille has a huge talent for make bazar things totally work for her. I seriously envy her for it cause whenever I try it just comes off as confusing with a kind of random "what the fuck feel."

11. "Hey Everybody, It's Bobby Evers's Birthday," everbody likes tickling people who make noises
12. "Poo Train, Poo Train! Come on Ride the Poo Train," by Timm Sitzman - at first I wondered a little what it was kind of about and where it was going... but about the time he brouhgt out the nubs all was made clear. I don't know. Kind of a slow begining I guess.

13. "Vampire Detective Frankenstein Party!" by Adam Hahn - as an actor in this skit I was kind of uncertain how to play Dracula. Since I was in it I knew that Danielle and I were supposed to be x-girlfriends... but I'm not sure everyone else got it. Nice monster mask though.
14. "It's Time for Lunch," by Bernice Wells Carlson - AMAZING AMAZINGNESS.
15. "Damn it, I Am Sexy No Matter What You Say and I'm gonna Prove It! Through Song and Dance," by Eli Wilkinson - I can never tell if patrick means well or is being kind of malicious. hell he could even be serious every so often. I'm always never quite sure what to think about these things.

Jesse performed on 10/28 as well. He was in a dress and she smoke a cigarette. I remember him mentioning God. Jesse was also in attendance with his new girlfriend Rachel. He had his arm around her for a majority of the show...I think. He was either 11.5 or 10.5. I want to make sure he is on the posted order. Thanks.

1. "I Want to Scare You," by Bobby Evers.

Unfortunately I missed the first half of this piece to call patrick to tell him where we were in the order but the bit i did catch was adorable and creepy. I usually dress my victims up like dolls but clowns work too. In fact they are hilarious.

2. "Adventures in Alliteration," by Eric Landuyt

Yay alliteration. This theatrical piece played a great good... oh fuck it I'm not good at alliterating... I enjoyed it. Some bits were flat but others picked up for it.

3. "What's in my Pocket?" by Brown Butt

The voice. Aaron's voice is spooky at times. It reminded me of a twisted clown at one of those low budget county fairs that eventually work their way into your nightmares. Seriously. It was funny on that note. Although I was sad to find out that it was those happy emotions in his pocket...I was waiting for something cool... like a robot. A peace loving robot.

4. "Scary Halloween Spooktacular," by King Sophie

Eat the marshmellows! Stop letting them fall through you! This piece was odd. But hey odd is good. I thought the other characters besides the ghost needed a bit more reason to go from happy to sad. Most people are frightened by ghosts so maybe we could be frightened then become sad when we see it's sad.

4.5 "The Return of Shelty Shakes Shelton," by Eli Wilkinson & Jon Shelton

Shelton's curse: having a ticklish belly. With a freaky laugh.

5. "300 is a Big Number," by Lenslie Krappenface and Strackzy Honez

I wasn't invited to the party... I must be a loser then. The pure exaggeration of how many ppl could be in the apartment and have sex with them was funny enough for the skit. Although some 'fluff' reduction would be helpful.

6. "What Do Love & Baseball Have in Common? Both True & Fiction," by Danielle Santangelo Kovalil, Age 8

Who doesn't love Bo Jackson. The man was so talented... although he never did sleep with me like he promised when I wrote to him, telling him that I was an 18 year old virgin woman who desperately craved him... oh well. Danielle is hilarious. Her writing rocks. But her delivery is the best! (i'm being 100% honest too and not just because she is helping me with my 10 min pieces)

7. "His Stenographer for Years," by John Leigh

odd... I guess the part I liked most was the name Belky. Other than that... I don't know. Eh.

7.5 "There's a train of Poop! Tim's True Tales" by Timm Sitzman

I loved it because I did something similar calling the IC Catholic school Ragina instead of regina.

8. "Little Billy's Halloween Pie," by Uncle Shelton

Oh Jon... Jon Jon Jon. I remember when you told me about this piece and I laughed because of how odd it was. But then when we talked about the end and we were thinking about a better last line, and even though you told me then, it was a million times funnier performed.

9. "Old Poop Eye," by King Toad

I miss King Toad. Sure the Michael Tabors rock but I like this a lot too. Some more this year would rock my world.

10. "My Halloween at the Beach," by Aprille Clarke

So this piece SOO reminded me of all those Grateful Dead shirts I wore growing up. Add the wolfman who I love from the Lon Chaney days and what do you get? Pure gold! That's what! I am for gay marriage so I am also for undead/wolf people marriages too! Other than that, it was well written and mucho hilarioso.

11. "Hey Everybody, It's Bobby Evers's Birthday," by Katy Baggs

awww....it was sooo cute.

12. "Poo Train, Poo Train! Come on Ride the Poo Train," by Timm Sitzman

Okay so Jazz is right up there with my favorite kinds of music so I enjoyed it from that aspect of it. Just the mere mentioning of the Duke, Count Basie, and Louis Armstrong melted my uncool heart into a jive cool puddle of pure soul. It was sad when he lost his hand although It was only in his shirt! wait... he's a phony! Kidding. Only uncool cats say that funky gunky crud. It did start a bit slow but you know what? That just meant it was soulful baby.

13. "Vampire Detective Frankenstein Party!" by Adam Hahn

I had a hard time understanding this one. But maybe it was just Mirri's vampire teeth. Idk... Adam will kill me now.

14. "It's Time for Lunch," by Bernice Wells Carlson

I was sad when there wasn't any food back there... I was expecting some like cheese and crackers or something...

15. "Damn it, I Am Sexy No Matter What You Say and I'm gonna Prove It! Through Song and Dance," by Eli Wilkinson

This wasn't my skit at all! So I'll comment on it:

I must explain this to you who don't know. I didn't write this. You know why? It was actually good. Patrick asked if I could put my piece on hold which I gladly did so he could do his thing and I'm glad he did. Sitting on the front stair I watched him spill his soul out and I was both haunted and saddened by what I saw. I was moved. It was like watching Bogart in Cassablanca right after Ilsa reappears. Which works for me because that's my favorite movie of all time. No one was expecting Partick at all which only made it better. Everyone thought he couldn't come. Which he couldn't thus the reason I had to be last. The only funny part to me was when katy was looking at me when Patrick left and I was like, "What? I'm not doing anything."

I mean yeah you'll be known as that irish kid but who isn't irish these days?

1. "I Want to Scare You," by Bobby Evers
Displaying lots of talent in face painting while wearing a mask, which it seems would impair vison.

2. "Adventures in Alliteration," by Eric Landuyt
Quite clever. I enjoyed the word play. As ever, I would love to see a piece by the same author that doesn't center or at least slightly off center around sex.

3. "What's in my Pocket?" by Brown Butt
Oh man, I love this guy. If I had as much energy as him, I would probably pass out every tenish minutes. Perhaps he does?

4. "Scary Halloween Spooktacular," by King Sophie
This was funny... I think the ghost was maybe trying to do something other than stand there some of the time, but it was unclear. It seemed kind of illogical, and not just because of the sad ghost. It seemed kind of ridiculous to the point of being funny though, so good job.

4.5 "The Return of Shelty Shakes Shelton," by Eli Wilkinson & Jon Shelton
What was the point of this? It seems that this may have been another of the pieces that is mostly just funny to those involved.

5. "300 is a Big Number," by Lenslie Krappenface and Strackzy Honez
The basic premise behind this was good, and it started out well, but a lot of it seemed like kind of mindless sex humor that was a little on the mediocre side. Parts of it kind of dragged too.

6. "What Do Love & Baseball Have in Common? Both True & Fiction," by Danielle Santangelo Kovalil, Age 8
Highly adorable. Particularly the spelling errors.

7. "His Stenographer for Years," by John Leigh
Oh Belky Gelky. Where is John Leigh going with this? Well written, good use of a randomly bizarre name.

7.5 "There's a train of Poop! Tim's True Tales" by Timm Sitzman
Ha.

8. "Little Billy's Halloween Pie," by Uncle Shelton
This was a strange idea that it seems that I wouldn't have liked, but it was written in a way that made it funny. Good job.

9. "Old Poop Eye," by King Toad
I am so glad to hear from King Toad again. Genius, as always.

10. "My Halloween at the Beach," by Aprille Clarke
Excellent. The twist at the end made it all worth it.

11. "Hey Everybody, It's Bobby Evers's Birthday," by Katy Baggs
Seemed like a .5... Was it tickle people for your piece day or something?

12. "Poo Train, Poo Train! Come on Ride the Poo Train," by Timm Sitzman
This was alright, good idea but it kind of dragged sometimes. I couldn't tell whether it was supposed to be serious or comedic, so I will assume somewhere in between.

13. "Vampire Detective Frankenstein Party!" by Adam Hahn
I was a little confused by this one, but it was funny all the same. I liked the part where Mirri spat out the fangs.

14. "It's Time for Lunch," by Bernice Wells Carlson
Personally, I did not go to lunch. I wasn't hungry. But I'm sure it was an excellent lunch. Maybe this would've been better last.

15. "Damn it, I Am Sexy No Matter What You Say and I'm gonna Prove It! Through Song and Dance," by Eli Wilkinson
This was amazing. I am still in awe. The writing was incredible, and on top of that it was so well acted that there was that moment of awkward, creepy silence after it finished. I loved the use of music. It could've been funny, which would've ruined the piece, but it was so well done that it really added to it. His kind of shakey mannerisms were spookily entrancing. I am amazed, definately.

1. "I Want to Scare You," by Bobby Evers - This piece reminded me a lot of "Phantom of the Opera" or "The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It had a "classic creepy" feel to it. It was neat.

2. "Adventures in Alliteration," by Eric Landuyt - It's funny because the title has alliteration too.

3. "What's in my Pocket?" by Brown Butt - I became exhausted just watching this guy. Exhausted and frightened.

4. "Scary Halloween Spooktacular," by King Sophie - I think the ghost was sad because it couldn't eat Marshmallows. I know I would be.

4.5 "The Return of Shelty Shakes Shelton," by Eli Wilkinson & Jon Shelton - Ever since Eli first tickled my belly, it's become a hot new fad in the TB lounge.

5. "300 is a Big Number," by Lenslie Krappenface and Strackzy Honez - Who the hell has these parties?! Invite me next time!

6. "What Do Love & Baseball Have in Common? Both True & Fiction," by Danielle Santangelo Kovalil, Age 8 - Another question was answered in this piece. THe question: "Did Danielle always rock?" The Answer: "Hell yes."

7. "His Stenographer for Years," by John Leigh - I love John Leigh. He was one of my favorite writers last semester. I respect the man. That being said, I think it's time for this series to end. No offense to John, but this has been going on all semester.

7.5 "There's a train of Poop! Tim's True Tales" by Timm Sitzman - More stories from that other country you went to, please!

8. "Little Billy's Halloween Pie," by Uncle Shelton - I haven't had this much fun performing my work in a long time. I totally couldn't keep a straight face at the end. P.S. - If anybody DOES want to be touched, you know where to find me.

9. "Old Poop Eye," by King Toad - No Shame bands are the best. 'Nuff said.

10. "My Halloween at the Beach," by Aprille Clarke - I laughed. I cried. I threw up. I even pooped a little.

11. "Hey Everybody, It's Bobby Evers's Birthday," by Katy Baggs - Nobody tickles me for my birthday... :>(

12. "Poo Train, Poo Train! Come on Ride the Poo Train," by Timm Sitzman - Wow. Cool.

13. "Vampire Detective Frankenstein Party!" by Adam Hahn - Is it just me, or was Adam Hahn looking hotter than usual tonight?

14. "It's Time for Lunch," by Bernice Wells Carlson - You owe me lunch Tabor! I will hunt you to the ends of the earth!

15. "Damn it, I Am Sexy No Matter What You Say and I'm gonna Prove It! Through Song and Dance," by Eli Wilkinson - This piece spoke to me. I had no idea PAtrick could express such pain. His words had me spellbound.

7. "His Stenographer for Years," by John Leigh
I thought Aprille was a lady scientist. Now she has been the boss' stenographer for years?

14. "It's Time for Lunch," by Bernice Wells Carlson
Ways in which the original performance several years ago was better than this one:
-One Christangl is more lonely/underdog-ish than Jamal and Michael. It was easier for people to get up when there were two comfortable actors on the stage instead of one desperate character, and people getting up diluted the tension.
-Chris kept repeating, "It's time for lunch," or, "Let's go to lunch," instead of addressing anyone by name or discussing the lunch. This was a more interesting piece with a limited vocabulary.
-Chris actually did have lunch waiting in the hallway. No one joined him during the show, so afterward he had to load one hundred and fifty boxed lunches back into his car.

Nobody tickles me for my birthday.
Shelton, you were tickled onstage Friday, and it wasn't even your birthday. That makes you a lucky, lucky boy.

Is it just me, or was Adam Hahn looking hotter than usual tonight?
Either John means that Danielle dressed as Adam is sexier than Adam, which is true, or else he means that Adam dressed as Danielle is sexier than Adam, which is also true.

Holy Crap! this weekend is your last chance to see Macbeth (possibly in your entire life--How often does Shakespeare get produced?) and your first chance to see Sweet Charity. I hear they're both really good.

When I mentioned a few weeks back that we hadn't had much smoking, nudity, dangerous weaponry, or James Erwin at No Shame lately, why did people respond with cigarettes? Yuck!

Aprille mentioned the idea of word verification for comments. I say we try it and see how it affects our spam volume.
